Publish the Reasoning Chain — Obfuscate the Deployment

Publication preserves the full decision chain — principles, tradeoffs, constraints, reverify conditions, scars. It withholds device-specific names, addresses, commands, schedules, pathnames, and client-identifying markers. The method is valuable because it shows how judgment was structured under constraint. The deployment becomes dangerous when enough detail accumulates to map the client's environment.

Capture

The archive should preserve the full decision chain from the case — every principle, every tradeoff, every rejected alternative, every reverify condition, every scar — while avoiding leakage of concrete topology, operational timing, defensive controls, device-specific traits, and client-identifying details.

The method is valuable because it shows how judgment was structured under real constraints. The deployment becomes dangerous when enough detail accumulates to map the client's environment.

Why

There is a disclosure budget. The method is owed everything that teaches it. The client is owed everything that protects them. These obligations are not in conflict — they are satisfied by the same discipline: publish principles, obfuscate instances.

A principle-level record teaches more than a concrete deployment record, because it is generalized: another operator facing a similar problem can apply the principles to their own environment. A concrete deployment record teaches less while disclosing more — the specificity that makes it feel complete is exactly the specificity that reduces the client's security.

Why-Not

Why not publish only generic lessons with no case structure? The YY Method is strengthened by durable reasoning chains, not just bullet points. A generic lesson without a decision chain shows the conclusion but not the reasoning. The full ADR structure — with dependencies, Why-Nots, scars, and freshness conditions — is what makes the archive valuable as a teaching resource and as a living record of how the thinking actually developed.

Why not publish every decision at full fidelity? Fidelity can exceed the safe disclosure budget. Enough specific detail accumulated across 16 ADRs can allow a sophisticated reader to reconstruct the client's network topology, device inventory, and defensive controls. Publication must teach the pattern without disclosing the instance. The abstraction is not imprecision — it is professional protection applied deliberately.

Obfuscation Rules Applied Across This Case

Commit

Decision: This archive is published as an abstracted ADR set that preserves the method and reasoning chain while intentionally withholding concrete deployment details. The obfuscation is not a limitation — it is the publication standard. Principle published. Deployment protected.

Confidence: High. This ADR governs how the entire case is read after publication and is the final checkpoint before any derivative use.
